Feed the grid
Yah, here's a guy thinking outta the "box". Mark Oberholzer ran this idea at the Next Generation Design Competition. Came in second place.
Its a wind turbine to generate electricity.
The idea is to place these along the center median as barriers; the traffic speeding by creates wind gusts spinning these Darrieus turbines. Could be enough to power the street lights.
Only problem is, would they serve as adequate barriers for protection.
Lights out
Look for the Eiffel Tower to turn off its lights for 5 minutes on Thursday evening. The attention-getter is to announce the publication of an unprecedented environmental report.
This one is different not because it's from an international panel of scientists, which it is. The meticulous wording has to be agreed upon by politicans from 100 countries.
The report on climate change is expected to be released on Friday, maybe. They're still wrangling over details of the report to eliminate any confusion for pseudo-intellectual comedians like Dennis Miller.
